You will register for over 12 credits if you wish to be considered a full-time student. The maximum credits allowed is 16 per term.
When registering, focus on sections with the open red circle. This indicates that you still need to meet this requirement. *The green checkmark indicates you have met this requirement.
Special Note: Degree Works has a feature that lets you see all upcoming offerings for certain courses by clicking on courses in blue. So, for example if you click on PSYC 2030 above, you will see all available sections. *You can’t register directly from Degree Works (continue on in this site for more on how to register).
The next graphic demonstrates that this student still needs Educational Planning (red circle). If the student clicks the blue attribute text, courses meeting the Ed Planning requirement will populate. This same concept works if you need to select a general education course.
The graphic below is an example of a pop-up screen that will appear when clicking on attribute. The student learns that CUST 2055 meets the Ed Planning requirement and sees that there are 2 sections available in Fall 2023 term.
Understand Advanced-Level Requirements as you Register
Most often, students bring lower-level transcript credit to SUNY Empire. Lower-level course numbers starting with a 1 or 2. ex: BUSN 256 or PSYC 1500.
You will need at least 45 advanced-level credits to earn a bachelor’s degree. 24 of those will be in your concentration. Advanced-level course numbers starting with a 3 or 4. ex: BUSN 3560 or PSYC 4500.
Be aware how many credits you have already earned. If you have 79 lower-level credits, the remaining credits (even gen ed) should be taken at the advanced-level in order to have 45 credits before you graduate (79 lower level + 45 advance level = 124 total credits to graduate).
Note that there is a section of degree works which will tell you how many advanced level credits you still need.
