These next steps can help you with a successful start to the term.
Be Aware of the Course Schedule
The full and express term I will start on the same date. Express term II runs in the second 8 weeks of the full term. You will find meeting times on your course schedule.
Order Books
Go the Bookstore and order your course materials.
Familiarize yourself with Brightspace
Brightspace is the learning management system where you will take most of your courses. Enroll in the self-paced online tutorial, A Student’s Introduction to Brightspace, which provides an introduction to the basic features needed to use this program. You will be prompted to self-enroll in this course when you click on the course link for the first time.
Find your Courses
Your online courses will be available in Brightspace a week before the term start. If you are taking independent studies or study groups, please contact your instructor for details.
Take Advantage of Preview Week
The preview week for online courses begins one week before the start of the course. At that time, you can begin to review your courses. This will allow you time to plan before the term even begins.
I recommend using this time to:
- make sure you have course access (contact Service Desk if you don’t)
- read the course information documents
- follow the layout of the course
- record the course due dates
- confirm you have all the materials you need
- understand the expectations for the course
Commit
Prioritize the time needed to complete your coursework. Other commitments can become overwhelming, but don’t let them get in the way of your self-improvement goals.
You are in your courses. You are going to do this. You are going to be a huge success!
